Raymond Edward Warthen
July 30, 1955 – February 22, 2024
Raymond was born in Baltimore to the late Dorothy Jean (nee Baker) and Raymond Eugene “Bud” Warthen. He grew up in Highlandtown and Chesaco Park. Ray attended Golden Ring Jr. High and Overlea High School and had a love of sports, mostly playing soccer and baseball while growing up. He met his future wife of 51 years, Margaret Ann Watson, when he was 14. They married in October of 1972. They had two sons, Ryan Charles Warthen born in 1973, and Matthew Edward Warthen born in 1977.
Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alabama and Germany. He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch the Orioles and the Ravens. Ray loved to play soccer and baseball as a kid, even playing on some adult recreation teams. His love of animals was second to none. He had dogs for most of his life, including Luke, Brandon and Leo. His most recent dog was a rescue named Sadie. Sadie is not a big fan of men for some reason, but she warmed up to Ray immediately. Sadie is the second love of his life, just behind Marge.
Ray enjoyed shooting pool on various teams during the past 25 years in the APA and BCA. Several of his teams even made the national tournaments in Las Vegas. Ray’s dedication to his family and friends made him the one person you could always count on. His dry sense of humor and quick wit made conversations fun.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, sister Deborah Bare and her husband Jerry, father-in-law Bill Watson, mother-in-law Ann Watson, and brother-in-law Billy Watson. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Warthen (nee Watson), two sons Ryan Warthen (Denise) and Matthew Warthen, grandson Joseph Baldwin, sister Bonnie Warthen (Perry), brother Eric Warthen, Sr. (Tracey), sister-in-law Marie Disney (John), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
