Peter Gregory Swindell passed away on January 27, 2025, after a 2½ year battle with mesothelioma. He will be remembered for his inner strength, kindness, generosity, spontaneous and sometimes irreverent sense of humor, gift for putting people at ease, penchant for ballroom dancing, and enduring love for his “Sugar.” He was a Navy veteran who proudly served at the Embassy in London, England from 1969-1973 and had a special place in his heart for his “brothers in arms” throughout his life.
Peter is survived by his wife, Lynn M. Oswald, his sisters, Mary (Swindell) Shelley, Margaret M. (Swindell) Glackin and her husband David, Christina M. (Swindell) Abid and her husband Ramsey, his brother John W. Swindell and his wife Linda, 21 nieces and nephews, and 10 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul G. Swindell and Vera M. (Miller) Swindell, his brothers Paul G. Swindell Jr. (Jerry), Stephen J. Swindell, and James M. Swindell, and his sister Mary Ann (Annie) (Swindell) Smith.
Peter’s body was donated for the advancement of medical science according to his wishes. Donations can be made in his name to his favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Peter’s bright light will forever live in our hearts.
