Born in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya-Philippines, Mila earned a BSN from the Manila Central Univ. - College of Nursing. In the early 70’s, Mila was one of eight nurses selected from hundreds of applicants for a one-year contract in Vidalia, GA. So, with five children and a husband, she made the ultimate sacrifice to leave her family behind in the Philippines to pursue the American dream. By 1976, she was able to petition her family to join her in Baltimore, MD. She went on to work and retire from Johns Hopkins Hospital after 30+ yrs of working in various departments.
After retiring, she became active in community service and fundraising with the Knights of Columbus. Her love of singing led her to join the Santo Nino choir and the Archdiocesan Filipino Choir. She was a devout Catholic who often led the rosary and group prayers.
“Manang” Mila will fondly be remembered for her friendly nature, fashion sense, and being a huge sports fan. Whether it was pro wrestling, Oriole baseball or Ravens football, she kept records of all the scores and players. Her love of making desserts, pancit and lumpia will be missed at the numerous gatherings she truly enjoyed.
Milagros, meaning “miracle “, prayed for one until the end. She asked everyone to pray for her and do the rosary daily. She believed in the “Four Keys to Heaven”. God truly gained an angel.
