Kimberly Anne Wooden of California, Maryland, passed away on July 21, 2021, at her home at the age of 61. Kim was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph Francis Wooden, Sr. & the late Rita Estella Wooden (nee: Knauer). She is survived by her brother, Joseph F. Wooden, Jr., & her sister-in-law, Laurie Smith Wooden.
Kim was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She was an honor student Notre Dame Preparatory School and was one the few women enrolled in electrical engineering at Johns Hopkins University in 1977.
After graduating in 1981, Kim became a civilian engineer for the US Navy at Patuxent Naval Air Test Center in St. Mary's County, MD. She worked on testing equipment for a variety of naval aircraft, from jets to the President's helicopter squadron (HMX1). Her favorite aircraft to work on were the P3 Orion & EP3 Aries, and she was proud to manage the testing programs on those planes for decades. Kim retired from the US Navy in 2014, after 34 years of dedicated service to our nation.
Kim loved cats and was a soft touch when the local veterinarian asked her to adopt a cat. She was a voracious reader, enjoying all forms of fiction. She was also an avid gamer, which connected her to a group of friends around the world. And, Kim enjoyed watching movies and British television.
Kim was helpful and nice to everyone she met. Truly a kind and gentle soul. We will dearly miss her.
