Gabrielle passed peacefully at John's Hopkins Bayview. She is survived by her husband of 60 years George Holland, sister M. Lee Moulds (Lyter), daughter Georgia Holland-Pence, son in law Tim Pence, son Geoffrey Holland and grandchildren: Adam and Ana Pence, Gillian and Grant Holland. As well as a niece, nephews and special friends.
Born Sept 5, 1939, to Felton and Erma Lyter of S. East Ave. in Highlandtown. She attended school # 215 and Patterson Park High School, where she was the editor of the newspaper and yearbook. Her high school classmates considered her the "best journalist on staff" and a "swell gal." She exuded "Patterson Pride."
She followed her passion and earned a teaching degree from Towson State University, where she was also the editor of the yearbook. She taught English at her Alma Mater: Patterson, where she was the yearbook advisor and sponsor of many literature clubs. Her career lasted for over 30 years in Baltimore City Public Schools, and she always enjoyed seeing her former students after they graduated. Gay, loved local Baltimore politics and was very active in the Southeast Community Organization (SECO) and the campaigns of William Donald Schaefer and Barbara Mikulski. She loved Patterson Park and fought for the development of the Virginia S Baker Recreation Center and the Mimi DiPietro Ice Skating Rink. She was active in church, from 1st United Evangelical Church in Fells Point to The Salvation Army in Hampden. In her later years she enjoyed eating with the High Noon Club of Patterson High, reconnecting with fellow retired teachers from Patterson, spending time with the local Red Hat Group, exercising at CCBC with her water aerobics friends, and visiting in fellowship with family members, good friends, classmates and former students.
Visitation will be held at the Cvach-Rosedale Funeral Home, 1211 Chesaco Avenue on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm. Prayer service at 7:30pm on Monday evening. Interment private. Arrangements by Charles S. Zannino Funeral Service.
