Doris Goldsmith Obituary

On February 14, 2023, Doris (Chick) Berdina Goldsmith (nee Cox); joined her beloved husband of 64 years, the late Eugene M. Goldsmith, Sr.  She was the devoted mother of Eugene M. Goldsmith, Jr. and Thomas E. Goldsmith, and mother-in-law of his wife Trina.  Doris was a loving grandmother of TJ Goldsmith.  Doris was born to the later Rodger and Ida Cox on May 8, 1930.  She was one of 11 children.  Her siblings are the late Robert (Bob) Cox, Rodger (Erf) Cox, Joan Japko, Matthew (Toby) Calender, the late Ray Calender, Verda Walters, the late Ella May (Patsy) Calender, Arinthia (Cookie) Wines, Lloyd (Doc) Calender, the late Joseph (Joe) Calender.  Doris is also survived by many wonderful in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

When her children were young, she was a substitute teacher at Chapel Hill Elementary School, where she was also a volunteer and active in the PTA. She also was a Sunday School teacher at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.  Later Doris worked as a salesperson for Cambridge Neckwear, a tie manufacturing company.  As a part of her job, she traveled to many large cities representing the company at trade shows across the United States.  She retired in 1991.  In retirement, Doris loved to spend time with her family, in particular her grandson, and to travel on both coasts.  Her love for summer trips to Ocean City, MD with family started a tradition in the 1960s that still continues today.  She also enjoyed family vacations to Deep Creek Lake and the Poconos.  Doris was a sweet, generous and caring person who was dearly loved.  She will be missed by many.

The family will celebrate Doris’ life on March 4, 2023, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8212 Philadelphia Road, Rosedale, MD 21237 at 10:00 am.  Any remembrances should be sent to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church “Food Pantry”, 8212 Philadelphia Road, Rosedale, MD 21237.
