On June 20, 2021, Aaron Tex Randolph, Sr. (affectionately referred to as “Randy,” “Arnold,” and “Pap-paw”) went home to be with his late wife, Garnet Randolph (nee: Vass), the love of his life. Aaron was a devoted father of Gary Lee Randolph and his wife Tanya, and others; loving grandfather of Megan Randolph Maas and her husband Brandon, and others; treasured uncle to Jeanie Shelley Gosney and her husband Jim, Lessie Shelley Goings and her husband Richard, and Ron Shelley and his wife Carla, of Florida; beloved son of the late James and Mincie Randolph (nee: Cutshaw); and, cherished brother to 9 late siblings, and uncle to droves of nieces and nephews. Of his family and friends, Aaron was the last surviving member of his generation.
Aaron hailed from Greeneville, Tennessee, and left home at age 13, ultimately relocating to Baltimore, where he met his lovely Garnet, and raised his family. Aaron proudly served his country in WWII (Army 1st Infantry Division; European theater), and later visited high schools to educate students about WWII and the Holocaust. Aaron retired from the American Can Company in Canton, after 44 years of service, and was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Aaron was a proud family man and an avid outdoorsman, spending much of his time hunting, fishing, and crabbing. He also enjoyed country western music and dancing, and was extremely well-read. Aaron was a “man’s man,” with a fighting spirit and a captivating smile. Not one to mince words, he always stood-up for what was right. He was a cowboy, a crack-shot deer hunter, the family card shark, a vivid storyteller with an immense sense of humor, and a bonafide friend of the great Johnny Cash.
He was adored by his family and friends, and will be sorely missed, although his legacy will surely live on.
