Shirley Estelle Merritt (nee Laumann)

October 22, 1935-May 4, 2018

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy E. Habicht (Previously Laumann) her father, Henry A Laumann, Sr and her husband Thomas Merritt. She is survived by her brother, Henry A. Laumann, Jr, her niece Mandy Barranger and husband T J and their son, Henry R. Barranger who was Shirley's great nephew who she loved and adored. Also by many cousins.

She was a great tease, getting as good as she gave. Everyone was afraid to turn their back on her lest they receive a pinch in the hindquarters. She was extremely shocked when first on the receiving end of a pinch. Shirley was a wonderful baker. Her Hot Milk Cake was loved by everyone. She donated these cakes to her church, other churches, the Women's Auxillary of the Salvation Army and others. They were usually sold at auction bringing in substantial bids. Many asked for her recipe and were disappointed when their cake did not rise as tall as Shirley's. It was finally revealed that her cup of flour was not a measuring cup but an oversized coffee mug. Her deviled eggs were also a big hit with everyone, when she asked what could she bring to a family gathering the answer was always a resounding "Deviled Eggs" Many times she was barely in the door and folks were reaching for eggs.

Shirley loved music and singing. She sang for many years with the Dundalk Chorus of the Sweet Adelines International, enjoying many performances and contests. She loved her church, Chesaco United Methodist in Rosedale, and was a faithful follower serving on several committees.

Visitation is Tuesday, May 8th 3-5 and 7-9 at the Cvach /Rosedale Funeral Home, 1211 Chesaco Ave, 21237. Funeral service is Wednesday May, 9th 10:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chesaco UMC at 901 Chesaco Ave, Baltimore, MD 21237
